_________________________________________________________ UPDATE Sammie is currently residing with myself, and having a longer recovery than expected. But I don’t mind, she fits right in with all of my animals! She has taken claim to the living room couch and has made a nice collection of my socks and her rawhides in my bedroom on her big doggie bed. When I’m running late and can’t seem to find a pair of socks, Sammie is always willing to let me “borrow” a pair back. Thank goodness she’s just a collector and not a chewer! Sammie amazes me every day with how well she behaves. She is such a joy to come home to and is going to make a wonderful family dog. She needs no training and will be an easy adjuster. Sammie has endured a lot since we have rescued her and I hope her next surgery goes well and she has a quick recovery. Hopefully by the end of March Sammie will be able to attend an adoption event. I will keep everyone posted on how her 2nd surgery goes. Keep Sammie in your prayers! *Sammie’s 2nd surgery will take place the week of 3-7-10. Sammie’s FHO does not seem to be healing She will again have a 3-6 week recovery depending on the outcome of the surgery. To donate funding toward Sammie’s secondary surgery please contact

I'd Like Everyone To Meet Sammie

Sammy is a beautiful 5-6 year old Black Lab mix, only much smaller tipping the scales at roughly 40lbs.
Sammie came to us about 3 months ago with a litter of puppies from a high-kill shelter. All of her babies have been adopted and Sammie is currently looking for her forever home.
Sammies Adoption Donation is $60.00
This includes her vaccines, Rabies, Spay, Flea, Heart Guard Prevention and FHO Surgery.
She is great with kids, other animals and cats. I like to call Sammie, an "old soul." She is extremely mellow and would do excellent with an older couple looking for a new companion.
Sammie will unfortunatly need a surgery called an FHO (Femoral Head Ostectomy).
This is a very expensive surgery (Over $1,500) and IS covered in her adoption donation
.
Sammie is scheduled for surgery on 1-19-10
Here is a little bit of information on her surgery.
The procedure exposes the head section of the femur bone (the ball of the ball and socket joint), and then the head is removed using a small saw.
Unlike most other hip surgeries, the head of the femur is not replaced, but is allowed to heal and develop its own fibrous scar tissue so that the joint is no longer bone-to-bone (also called a "false joint").
FHO surgery is usually done to alleviate hip dysplasia, an extremely painful congenital condition found in many dog breeds and some cats. It is also performed in cases of trauma where the head of the femur is badly broken or severed, or in response to other diseases of the hip bone, such as Perthes' disease. It is sometimes the procedure of last resort when other methods have failed, but it can be indicated when the hip joint is severely affected or if arthritis in the joint is serious enough.
Sammie will have a long recovery and we currently do not have a forever home, or a foster home for her. If you would be interested in adopting, or possibly fostering Sammie after her surgery, please contact myself, Tela 407-952-1037, and let me know. I will have everything you will need to know to care for Sammie during her recovery. In the meantime, I will be taking care of her until a home, or foster home is found.
We will be putting Sammies surgery bill on our account at the Banfield of Oviedo and it will take sometime to pay off.
If you would like to donate any funds to help cover some of the cost of Sammies surgery, follow up exams and medications, Save A Life Pet Rescue, and Sammie would be forever grateful!
As a Non-Profit, No Kill. 501 c3 we do rely soley on donations to keep us up and running.

Things To Know When Adopting A Puppy/Dog

Save A Life Pet Rescue, INC takes great pride in the health, temperament and adoption experience for both the animals and adopters.
It is very important to ASK questions before, and during an adoption to ensure you are dealing with a reputable rescue.
Save A Life Pet Rescue deals with a lot of animals under the age 6 months and takes proper precautions to ensure a happy, healthy new pet. Animals under the age of 6 months old require more time, care and medical then an adult dog. This is because puppies immune systems are not fully developed and are more susceptible to catching diseases.
99% of our animals rescued are rescued from High-Kill Shelters. 1% are owner surrender.
Animals pulled from Shelters, compared to animals turned in by their owners, (living in a home environment) are exposed to extremely deadly diseases. Parvo, Distemper, Pneumonia, Corona and Kennel Cough are a the main diseases lurking at pounds.
These diseases can have an incubation period of up to 14 days and sometimes longer.
Even animals "Surrendered" by their owners can still contract these diseases and should be quarantined.
